August 8 - August 11: The Kite

The KITE

Between August 9 – 11th we are in a KITE aspect.

Imagine a kite.    Visualize a long spine to the kite and upper part is triangle shape.  Got it?  In astrology this is the kite aspect.  The aspect involves at least four planets who are in grand trine and sextile and two of the planets are in opposition.   Obviously, that is a lot of planetary choreography, and it is a rare aspect.  In our case this August we have the Kite aspect with five planets which has never happened with these planets in these signs.    You know what, why don’t we go to the dictionary and look up ‘Has never happened before” and we will find 2025.   Okie Dokey.

On August 6 Mars enters Libra.   Remember you can’t have a kite without an opposition.  While trines and sextiles flow and offer up a ‘rainbows and unicorns” softness (sort of), the opposition brings the power and the destabilizing factor.   The fact it is Mars is big.   No matter what the planet, the opposite planet brings the battle.  In this case it is not Venus or Mercury, it is warrior Mars who is fast and is fierce.   Really, we get Mars? Must we experience that planet?  Sure.   We all signed up to be here now, so I guess we are up for it.    Sigh.

The kite window is August 8-11, but I would start watching the world on August 6thwhen Mars enters the Libra door.   Also, adding to this potent window is the Moon in Aquarius on the 7th which will trine and sextile the group and then it makes a conjunction to Pluto and opposes Mercury.   And of course, it brings the Aquarius full moon on the 9th which has its own juice being a full phase.   On the 11th We have round two of Saturn sextile Uranus as discussed in other post and Mercury stations direct ending the three-week retrograde.

This is a Wow period.

This kite obviously has many competing themes that are inspiring or opportunistic and disruptive or fierce.   I am beyond my skill set and knowledge bank to venture a guess how all this will play out.  Some of it I can sort through, like the Saturn Uranus sextile and yes Mars trine Pluto is productive in pulling out garbage.  But when you add all the other factors, it is so big, it is beyond my scope.    Here’s the line up and we’ll all watch what happens together.

Aug 6:       Mars enters Libra

Aug 8        Mars trine Uranus (1Aries)

Aug 7 :       Moon enter Aquarius

Aug 7 :       Moon trine Mars (0 Libra)

Aug 7 :       Moon trine Uranus (1 Gemini)

Aug 7:       Moon sextile Saturn (1 Aries)

Aug 7:       Moon sextile Neptune (1 Aries)

Aug 7:       Moon conjunct Pluto (2 Aquarius)

Aug 8:       Moon oppose Mercury (4 Leo)

Aug 8:        Mars oppose Saturn (1 Aries)

Aug 9:        Mars oppose Neptune (1 Aries)

Aug 10:     Mars trine Pluto (2 Aquarius)

Aug 11 :    Mercury stations direct (4 Leo)

Aug 11:     Saturn sextile Uranus (1 Gemini)

On August 28 Neptune is exact in the sextile with Uranus.  Obviously, it is part of the kite aspect even if the exact perfection occurs after Mars has left the window.

Astrology for July 28 - August 1

This week is the Crescent Phase and First Quarter waxing moon. Whatever seeds we planted during the New Phase (7/24-7/27) may need some refinement.   Conversations and details that were fuzzy or wonky, perhaps exaggerated by the Mercury retrograde may come to the surface in Cresent.  Fine tuning facts may be necessary.   On the 30th, Venus leaves busy-as-a-bee Gemini and enters Cozy-Is-Everything Cancer.    For the next month, dinners at home with a few friends is more appealing than larger soirees.

Also on July 30, Chiron stations retrograde.  I do not always go long on Chiron but given it’s square with the new moon, it is an influence during this whole 29-day lunar month plus we are in the last decan of Aries.  See my earlier post

On July 31 at the halfway point of the retrograde we have an inferior solar conjunction (cazimi).  Any aspect with the Sun calls attention…. to our attention.  What is our awareness around big bold (Leo) thinking (Mercury).   What are we learning about our vitality?  Does our communication match our heart?   Why or why not?  Are we comfortable owning our skills and talents?  Or do we marginalize them?  Why?  How have we been called to stand up for someone or something?  What changes or shifts can we make in our thinking that uplifts, is productive and bold before the retrograde ends (August 11)?

At the end of the week, the moon in Scorpio encourages actions that cut out dead ends, and the old, tired behaviors that work against our vitality.    Venus the planet of values including love and money is in tough aspect with Saturn and Neptune on August 1.    Dispirited and wet blanket energy to the whole day.

Crescent Moon Phase

July 28, 2025

4:40am PDT

Focus on: What are you being informed about your daily skills?  How are you being informed about your schedule and calendar?   How are you being informed about your daily routines?  What are you learning about your daily maintenance and how does it effect your health?

Planetary notes:

7/28: Venus sextile Chiron.  Inspired to be independent.  Leaning into love, joy, creativity for big personal satisfaction.

7/30: Chiron retrograde.  27 Aries 09 (see above)

7/30: Venus enters Cancer.   A month of love that is sticky and gooey.  Sentimental goes long.

7/31: Sun conjunct (inferior) Mercury (see above)

First Quarter Moon

August 1, 2025

5:41am PDT

Focus on:   What actions are you taking that release the dead?  How are you removing dead ends?   What actions can you take now that speak to letting go?   How can you be replenished and tap your creativity?  How are you acting when you know you have no control?  How are you inspired by releasing?

Planetary Notes:

8/1: Venus square Saturn.  A reality check on love and money.  Emotions get push back.    Hot actions get a wet blanket.

8/1: Venus square Neptune.  Emotions can feel petty when compared to the need for independence.   Feelings versus actions are conflicted.

Chiron Retrograde July 30 - Jan 2. Still Getting our Aries On!

Chiron was discovered in 1977.  Astronomers identified Chiron as a new class of objects, the Centaurs, which are planetoids between the Kuiper belt and the asteroid belt.   These Centaurs are visitors, who have a short-lived orbit and will eventually leave our solar system.  In astrology Chiron is a messenger that provides lessons which tap self-discovery in topics that are….. super hard.  But still we gotta do them.

Chiron has an unusual orbit that takes 50 years to circle the Sun.  It spends the longest time, a little more than eight years, in Aries and the shortest time in Libra at 1.6 years.    When you hit 50 you are in your Chiron return and you bring a new maturity to the lessons and the opportunities of the Chiron work.

Chiron in Aries, connects us to any wounds we have about being assertive, a fighter, and putting self-interests first.  We have been on this Aries journey since 2018.

While every human is flawed, god yes, we still have inner drives that need to be acknowledge.   We are a ‘self’.  Each of us are independent from everyone elses ‘self’. Chiron in Aries reminds us that our place in the world thrives better when we remember ‘self’.   What does it mean to assert self?  If we find it difficult to fight or put ourselves out-there, then who are we?   Chiron is not easy.   It is the planet(oid) of the proverbial, two steps forward one step back.   But even if we are clumsy, this is part of the lesson.   We teach others, (teaching is a characteristic of Chiron) by our own willingness to assert self and be self directed.     Next year we begin a path about money and values when Chiron enters Taurus.  Of course, before we get to the Taurus era, we must continue the work and themes of Aries.

On July 30, Chiron will station retrograde and revisit 27 to 22 degrees of Aries.   We are in the final legs of the Aries journey so it would be advantageous to make the most out of the retrograde period that ends on January 2.  We need to keep working on self-agency and follow our inner prompts.  For those folks who have planets between 22-27 Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn you could have a lot of internal emotions about what needs your fight, your action, your fired up direction and your personal input.   Look to that planet and its themes and consider how it benefits by a solid injection of ‘self direction’.    While we are in this 29-day Leo lunar month go back to the well and find your resolve.  Tap good old fashion Leo creativity to help navigate any insecurities.   Take care of your container, that is; your body and your mind, as you pursue independence and goals that need a fight.   There will be a lot to glean about our insecurities or perceived weaknesses during this lunar month and during the Chiron retrograde.   If you feel wobbly, try to remember, the Nelson Mandela quote, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear”.

For added information go check out CafĂ© Astrology for your natal Chiron by sign and house.   Understanding how Chiron works personally may help you navigate and glean the most from it while it is it is in Aries.

For Leo New Moon

5-year-old “Catman” is rescuing stray cats in Philly, one superhero scratch at a time.

Shon Griffin suits up every weekend to feed and care for over 50 rescue cats alongside his aunts. His calm energy has even helped tame ferals others couldn’t reach.

Proof that kindness really is a superpower.

Leo New Moon

July 24, 2025

12:11pm PDT

(2 Leo 08)

I have been writing New Moon reports for a long time.

Think where you were in April of 2008.   That was seventeen years ago and many of you were living at home, or in college, others were beginning careers and some of you may have begun the long journey of creating and raising a family.   Wherever you were then and where you are now has been a long road.  Right?   Me, too.  My husband and I were working in the entertainment business and raising our son who was fresh in elementary school.

But also, in April of 2008 I began writing my new moon reports.   Every month I cranked out a report based on the chart of the new moon.   I laid out the larger themes of the outer planets and their aspects and broke down all eight phases of the 29-day lunar report.   Not going to lie, some of the writing was harder than others depending on the demands in my life and the astrology of the report.  In these seventeen years I have generated 208 reports.  And I say this with no hesitation or fear of hyperbole; I think this Leo New Moon and the 29 day astrology--- is the most potent of all reports I have processed.   I am not sure where we are heading.   I mean, yes, I can interpret the aspects to some extent, but seriously there is so much going on now and a lot of it is unknown. We are dealing with astrology that has not happened since BCE 3500 and other astro stuff that has never happened or if it did it was before the Ice Age.

This astrological era we are in is going to roll out for the rest of the decade and will be here in some form or another until 2033.  Obviously, I will get a beat on it eventually.  In the meantime I think we are going to see information this Leo lunar month.  I don’t know what it will be, but I think there is good evidence that a wire gets tripped that will be important to the changes in our future.   Even the small stuff will have a long impact.

The Astrology of 2025-2030

Scenographia: Systematis Copernicani Astrological Chart (c.1543) devised by Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543), from 'The Celestial Atlas, or the Harmony of the Universe') Meisterdrucke

Now that all the outer planets have transit into their new signs where they will be for the rest of the decade (except the brief period this fall for a retrograde back into the previous sign) we are beginning an extraordinary period of outer planet trines and sextiles.  Plus the conjunction of Saturn and Neptune.

We have never had these planetary aspects in these signs.   When I say ‘we’ I do not just mean us 21st century humans.   I mean all of humanity since the Ice Age.

This new era is ripe with opportunities.  Does it mean everything will be peachy?  No.  We will not be making a pitcher of margaritas, sitting on our porch and watching the good times roll out.   Astrology and humanity evolution does not work that way.  Case in point, Mars is always ready to zap outer planets and hit some dramatic trip wire (watch August) and for sure the eclipses will do a number (coming in September). But still at the end of this trine/sextile era which wraps around 2030 there will have been some monumental changes liken to man harnessing fire or man getting on horse for the first time.

The Saturn Sextile of Uranus which we are in the middle of right now feels like some kind of prep work.   Saturn rules timing and Uranus is quick in a out-of-the-blue move.   Things can go from zero to 100 in a half a nanosecond.    Opportunities may be presented in 2025, however their full understanding may not become apparent until 2026 when Neptune and Pluto get into the mix.

I will be talking so much about this era and frankly have already done a lot of writing about it.  I will continue to point to other astrologers for their take as well.  Case in point, for a solid dive into Saturn & Uranus go check out Rick Levine & Steve Judd’s discussion on Amanda Pua’s Astrology Hub.

July 21 - 24 (morning) - Astrology Landscape

The week begins with the last days, balsamic, of the Cancer lunar month.  The balsamic three-day phase is when we release.   In this three-day balsamic period we are releasing mental chaos.   The average human receives countless data every day and to be clear what we receive in one 24-hour period could be equivalent to ten years of data in our great grandparents era.  And all those ancient ancestors deep in our DNA got one scintilla of information compared to what we get in one day.   Use this balsamic phase hallmarked by the moon in Gemini to unplug the mind.

There are several planetary aspects occurring during this big ‘release’ three-day phase which are both challenging and easy.  The key to riding through the highs and lows is just follow the flow. Remember this is still the Cancer lunar month when we let our emotions, feelings and moods flow in and out.   Can you test yourself to see how much you have learned about letting the flow just process through you?   Use this balsamic phase to test your skills.

The Leo new moon launches on July 24; it is very potent new moon.  I will be posting it soon.

Balsamic Moon Phase

July 21, 2025

2:30am PDT

Balsamic:   We let go.  By releasing we can prepare for the new.

Focus on:  How are you releasing mental chaos?  How are you releasing running around like a squirrel?  How are you releasing gossip?  How are you releasing on any addiction to ‘news’?   Where do you need to unplug the data coming in?

Planetary Notes:

7/21: Venus square North Node (19 Pisces 32) Being critical in matters of love, beauty, money and creativity could be missing the point.   Where is kindness to others and self?

7/22:  Sun enters Leo

7/22   Sun sextile Uranus (00 Gemini   38) Out of the blue energy that is stimulating and informative can be inspiring and motivational.

7/23 Venus square Mars (21 Virgo) Love and war.  Tension is thick, anxiousness is high.  Whatever the struggle love is the answer.  Can it be found.

7/24: Sun trine Saturn (1 Aries 49) Boldness for adventure and independence and self-agency is pronounced.  Even the shy have got their bluster on.

7/24: Sun trine Neptune (2 Aries 04) Intuition and spirituality are high.   Visualizing a new horizon is inspiring.

Mercury Retrograde July 17 - August 11

Mercury in a museum.  Somewhere.

Mercury Retrograde

6/29: Mercury shadow (4 Leo14)

7/17: Mercury station retrograde (15 Leo 34)

8/11: Mercury station direct (4 Leo14)

8/25: Mercury exits shadow (15 Leo34)

At the end of June, I put up a post on Mercury retrograde.

So far since the lunar month began, we had the new moon, Uranus enter Gemini, Neptune then Saturn retrograde, a very strong Capricorn full moon and now we have Mercury retrograde.   Must everything happen at once?  Sigh.

I like the idea of Leo Mercury because I am good to watch some theater.   But with a Mercury retrograde in Leo theater is everywhere.  Within our family, and with friends, and on the sidewalk, in front of the post office, and in the parking lot at the market and drivers on every road in the world.  It’s all theater.

Try to mind your heart and your creativity during this three-week period.   Sometimes we need false starts and bumps to make it all better.

Astrology for July 14 - July 20

Disseminating and Last Quarter Moon phase

Early on the morning of Monday July 14 we move out of the full phase and into disseminating.    The thrills and spills of full are over and now in this phase we go inward.  We Reflect on what has transpired this lunar month.  What have you learned?   How can you share some of your knowledge?  What past experiences are you sharing?  Are you in the need to teach?  Or is it find a teacher?   Maybe we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.

Focus on:   How are you sharing the power of faith?  How are you reaching out to people who can offer spiritual guidance?  Where are your prayers?  What are you sharing that lines up with your intuition?

In the Last Quarter lunar phase, Mercury stations retrograde.  So, there is that going on for three weeks.   We have been in Mercury shadow since June 29 and will likely revisit themes that have rolled out since the shadow started.   Breathe.

Last Quarter Moon Phase

July 17, 2025

5:37 pm PDT

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living “The serenity prayer”

God, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things
I cannot change Courage to change the
things I can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference.

Focus on:

What final actions are you taking from anything you started on new moon that lean into self-agency?   How are you finding independence?   Does it start with an independent feeling?   Look back three weeks ago to the Cancer New moon on June 25th, what has transpired since then that now thinking about it, you may have benefited by a new reaction?  How about a new level of independence?

Planetary Notes:

7/17: Mercury station retrograde (15 Leo 34) (see separate post)

7/18: Venus sextile Mercury (15 Leo 34) Creative thoughts support love, money and things that we value.

7/19: Sun square Chiron. Immature feelings could challenge independence and self-agency.

7/20: Mars opposition North Node (19 Pisces 38) How do we find actions when things feel so unworldly.   Look at your calendar is it in sync with where you want to go?

Chris Brennan - Uranus in Gemini and the United States

I want to encourage folks to watch a new video by Chris Brennan at The Astrology Podcast.   Chris has shown a commitment on the topic of Uranus that is welcomed by many at this important time given Uranus is in Gemini in chart of the USA.     The fight for Independence in 1776 speaks to Uranus as does the bifurcation of the Civil War during its next pass in Gemini.   Chris goes deep into the history of the USA during Uranus in Gemini transits and includes in particular the work of Luke Duncan Broughton an astrologer from the mid 19th century who wrote an astrological almanac in real time during that transit of Uranus (1860-1867) in Gemini.    I had not heard of Broughton and appreciated his take very much.   As a British born astrologer who transplanted to the US his real time astro writings during the Civil War are rich in nuances that sometimes get neglected by historians.    For the next round of Uranus in Gemini Chris reads from a book by Evangeline Adams a prominent astrologer in the early 20th century who discussed Uranus in Gemini and the expectation of a USA at War in the 1940s.   She died 8 years before Pearl Harbor which launched the US into WW2 in 1941.    I remember my mother used to discuss her mother’s appreciation of Evangeline Adams work.

Anyway, Chris provides an excellent background on Uranus in Gemini and changes and transformations to the United States during the transit and consequently the world.    I recommend everyone give it a watch.

Full Moon – Capricorn

1:36pm PDT

18 Cap 50

Full moons tend to be emotionally loaded, and the Capricorn full moon only exists because the Sun is in Cancer, which as I discussed on the new moon is all about feelings, emotions and moods.    So, we feel juiced up on Capricorn full moon but and this is a big but, Capricorn is not cool with just letting our feelings, moods and emotions spill all over the place.   Nope.  Capricorn leans into pragmaticism, maturity and responsibility.   Capricorn is all about success and reaching goals.    The Capricorn full moon is a once-a-year, three-day phase where we find our inner dad, inner CEO, inner bureaucrat and we do what it takes to address any issue.   What is the issue?   Whatever needs fixing under our emotions, feelings and mood.

Saturn (and its connection to Capricorn) is highlighted this full moon and is luckily in a harmonious aspect with Neptune our inner mystic. Typically, a Cap full moon would be like a stark black and white photograph where we know the exact details in the shot.    But this full moon is colored by fuzzy Neptune which means we might not see everything in a sharpness and instead it is more like a watercolor painting.   Soft and muted but still we see the landscape.    Saturn in Aries colors this full moon on the importance of practical independence.   How can we have more freedom?  How can we carve a new way?  How are we being influenced by our intuition?    What does a breakout and self-agency have to do with our feelings, emotions and moods?

Uranus having just arrived in Gemini is also in harmony with Saturn urging us to mix it up.   We may feel encouraged that now is the time to try something different.   Saturn is the planet of timing and Uranus is the planet of change and revolution.   What changes are calling you on this full moon that feel revolutionary?   Where do you need your breakout?   Additionally, Uranus and Venus continue to be in sync adding a layer of creativity and support of values.    Nice.

And of course, Saturn and Pluto are in sextile.   This full moon encourages us to ditch what is not working.   It can be liberating more than scary.   We seek the fresh that comes with new.

While the moon is still full, Saturn stations retrograde on July 12.   The whole three-day phase of the full moon will probably be a study on timing.   What do we look like when we pull back for a second and not rush?   What do we glean when we look at the whole scene?   How does our inner boss benefit when we take out the emotions and get pragmatic about the different parts of our life?  We wake up, we do our day and then we go to bed.   Is there anything in there that is broken?  Tap your inner CEO for insights.

One other note, while Saturn is THE player in this full moon and it is the planet that likes to take care of business, it can also be pessimistic.  If you find yourself going into thoughts of “Why bother?”  “It is all effed up” “What’s the point?”  --that is a signal you gotta take care of self.  So, go into the Cancer sun and find your cozy.  Eat a meal.   Watch an old favorite movie.   Find an old memory that brings out joy.    Get through the negative and then find your practical side again.    Here's a little judgy insight; no matter how much you may tell yourself that being cynical is practical, it is not.   Cynical is a protective device and a sign that you need to nourish self.   It’s easy to be cynical and easy to be Pollyanna.  Neither get anything done which is not practical and therefore not Capricorn’s jam.

In short, this can be a very productive full moon.  Find the joy in thinking about areas of new independence and consider new ways to get freedom and new journeys.  Capricorn and Saturn want to help.

The last time we had a Capricorn full moon at 18 degrees was July 11, 2006.   Anything come up now that reminds you of then?   Here's the timeline for the world back then.   Kind of interesting.

Astrology for July 8 - 12

The moon continues its Gibbous phase as we wax towards the Capricorn full moon which lands on July 10th. .   I will post the full moon report in a couple days but it is the full moon tied to Saturn which is super slow and turns retrograde on the 12th.   That’s a lot of Saturn this week.

We are all of course watching Uranus which entered Gemini on Monday.    Can you feel the AI running through your veins?   Does your hair smell like ChatGBT?   We are heading somewhere.    This is us moving.   Here.  We. Go.

Gibbous Moon

Began July 6, 2025

Focus on:

How are you sorting through your opinions?   How do your opinions line up with your daily life?  Are they in sync?   What do you broadcast about ‘who you are’?   Are they in sync?   What is your spiritual practices are they in alignment with your daily actions?   Are you walking your talk?

Full Moon – Capricorn

1:36pm PDT

18 Cap 50

(Separate Post To Come)

Planetary Notes:

7/11: Sun trine North Node (19 Pisces 57) Family, feelings, emotions and moods that elevate are pronounced.

7/12: Saturn station retrograde (1 Aries 56) (see separate post)
