Sputnik & Pluto in Virgo

On October 4, 1957,  The USSR sent Sputnik, the first artificial satellite, into space.  The small metal object beeped back as it circled the Earth. At that moment the Space Race was on.    For most of the time the Soviet engineers and scientists worked on Sputnik, Pluto was in the final degrees of Leo.  Pluto moved into Leo in June 1939.  Note that date.  On September 1, three months after Pluto went into Leo we got to see how this transit in the most dramatic of signs was not playing, Germany marched into Poland and World War II was launched.   Pluto stayed in Leo until August of 1957 when Pluto officially left Leo and moved into Virgo on August 19, 1957 and then two months later we got Sputnik.      Virgo is of course a different energy than Leo.  Where Leo is bold and brash and noisy, Virgo is insecure, nervous and unsure.   Where Leo will demand the world's attention Virgo will quietly do something small but whose impact could be long lasting.    Sputnik's impact on America  was pure insecurity.   A few years ago there was a symposium of experts who spoke directly to the insecurity on America's education.

And there was insecurity that America's talent had been wasted on frivolous things like large cars.

However, the Soviets may have started the space race and rattled America to its bones. But it was a race that was finished by the USA on July 19, 1969 when Neil Armstrong and the rest of the astronauts landed on the Moon.    It would not be until August 1971 when Pluto would leave Virgo and enter Libra where it would do a number on relationships and marriages...beep beep beep

Happy birthday, Sputnik

Aries Full Moon: October 5

Aries Full Moon
October 5. 2017
2:40pm EST

Two hours before the Full Moon, Mars  & Venus get on top of each other at 19 Virgo.   If you need a visual think of the hottest CPA gal and guy who see each other across the room and run towards each other’s arms in full CPA passion.    Finding love and passion in details & numbers.   We only get Venus & Mars conjunctions every couple years and the last time these two tangled up in Virgo was November 2015 and that was at 24 Virgo.  So, here we go again for another round of love and energy around details.   Questions:   What is going on with details?  What are we neglecting?   Could something that we set aside to deal with later come up and nip us in the butt?  Speaking of butts what is going on with our health and exercise?  How is our calendar?  What are we setting time for and does it match our deeper values?  And of course where are we seeing only the forest and not the trees?   The fact that this aspect happens right before the full moon in Aries suggests that the fiery moon will get our attention with perhaps a really big bone head missed detail and we say, “Boy I really missed that one!”

The full moon in Aries is in square with Pluto.   With Aries there is a desire to rush before thinking.   Pluto in Capricorn is more measured and suggests we go in deeper and transform from below.     Aries is not prone to saying, ‘I’m scared” rather it likes to get into a squabble.   But if you go under the fight you will find fear.  Pluto in Capricorn has its own fear and when it is high performing it goes internal and lets something die so something new can be formed.   When Pluto in Capricorn misbehaves it can be a control monster and try to get the world to conform to its inner fear.   Finding the field between harsh and rash moon in Aries and cold as steel Pluto is the work of Sun in Libra.   Libra is always seeking balance.  Finding equilibrium by looking at everything from another person’s perspective.   Taking a breath.  Asking, “what is fair?”  This will help.  However, if people have a habit of putting themselves as the last priority and are always deferring to others when they should be putting themselves first—watch and see if the full moon gets your attention and it is clear that it is time to put you first.

The Moon in Aries with these various energies around it are setting up some of us to find ourselves in leadership roles.  Even if we don’t want it we may be sick and tired of being sick and tired and just know that the balance we are missing is our own leadership.

Use this full moon to find you.    You will need to know where you begin and end when we come to the Libra New Moon on October 19.

Astrology This Week

Astrology of this Week

This week begins in Gibbous Moon.      We have a powerful and gentle aspect on Tuesday between Venus and Pluto that may be helpful after what was a hideous Sunday night and Monday   post Las Vegas.  Sigh.    On Thursday October 5 we have Aries Full Moon.  The focus will be on finding self and independence.   This will be a separate post.

Focus on:

What are you neglecting that speaks to your friends?  What are you neglecting that speaks to being with groups of people who energize you?  What are you neglecting that speaks to being part of a group thought?   What are you neglecting that speaks to being a part of community?

Special Focus:

10/3: Venus trine Pluto. Love transforms.  Blocks break.  Values morph.

Full Moon Phase
October 5, 2017
2:40pm  EDT
12 Aries 42

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?

Focus on:   Full Moon in Aries.   Independence.  Actions.  Breaking new ground.  Remembering YOU in all relationships.
More to come.

Special focus:
10/5: Venus conjunct Mars.  Love and energy are united.  Warrior and artist are united.  Details rule!
10/8: Venus square Saturn.  Structure that bind and act like traps. Love feels constricted.  Money feels restricted.

10/8: Sun conjunct Mercury.  Light.  Smart.  Overwhelmed with too many details.   Perhaps too critical in thoughts.

Pluto Direct

Pluto direct
9/28: Pluto direct 3:35pm 16 Cap 51

Speaking of things intense and some times dark we have Pluto going direct the day after Jupiter opposes Uranus.   Wow.   The great divine is really getting our attention.   Pluto spends half of every year either going direct or going backwards.   Back in April Pluto turned retrograde.  The lessons of Pluto in Capricorn are pretty easy to see.  Who are our leaders?  How are our organizations?  How are our businesses?  How are the finances of our democracies?   How is big business working for us?  How is it not working?   On a personal level—what kind of CEO are you in your own life?  Are you rewarding yourself with well- deserved bonuses?  Are you a harsh boss harping on all your mistakes?  Are you not paying yourself enough in money or praise?  Are you cheating yourself on some level?  And how are you short changing your own power?   What have you learned since April about what empowers you?   And what have you learned since April about the value of letting things die?  How can you use that knowledge to improve your life in a daily manner?

Jupiter Oppose Uranus

Jupiter’s move

On September 27 Jupiter will make its final opposition to Uranus.  The first hit was December 26 then March 2 and now we complete the process.   Jupiter in Libra has been speaking to us all about fairness and partnerships.  Uranus in Aries wants to break new ground and embrace revolutionary thinking.    Did you take your relationships to new territory in late December?  Did something revolutionary happen?  Perhaps it was a small change but important change.    How about March?  Any changes then?    Did you feel something shift at the beginning of June with your relationships?   At that point Jupiter went direct and we felt the energy rev up.    What has felt fair and what has felt unfair in your relationships?   Expect one more shot of adrenalin in your partnerships or relationships as we head to the final Jupiter-Uranus opposition.      Special shout out to our Aquarian friends, Jupiter may be pushing you a wee bit harder since Uranus is your ruling planet.  Where do you need to get out of Dodge? Where do you need to break free?  Or from whom?   How would you benefit by international input?    Or your education what needs to be a tune up?    Once Jupiter makes contact with Uranus we may have something come up where we say---“oh, you again” this time use the Virgo lunar cycle to fix it.   And then about two weeks later Jupiter leaves Libra for Scorpio and will not return to Libra for 12 years.   So, let’s make the most of the Jupiter oppose Uranus and the final days of finding balance and fairness in Libra.   Because after October 10---well it is not about balance.
