The Centrifugal Force of January
Every month, the inner planets form aspects with one another and with the outer planets. Some months are busier than others. Sure.
With each aspect comes a corresponding reaction or stimulation that many of us feel in our real lives, and that also shows up in the world around us. This is mundane astrology 101.
Mercury square Jupiter? Here come the big mouths.
Or maybe you feel mouthy because that aspect hits a sensitive degree in your own chart.
Got it.
When the outer planets are involved, either through aspects from the inner planets or through aspects with each other, we move into collective territory. We’re no longer just talking about personal moods or conversations, but about global themes: shifts in politics, economics, culture, and the social order itself.
By now, anyone who follows astrological writing knows we are in unfamiliar territory. And when I say unfamiliar, I don’t mean the last decade or even the last century, I mean hundreds, possibly thousands, of years. We’ll save that conversation for another post.
For now, let’s stay with January.
Above is a screenshot from my Honeycomb calendar. Take a moment to really look at these aspects. Especially around 17th - 20th.
I’d call it crazy, but that word has been used so often over the past five or ten years that it’s almost lost its meaning. So instead, let’s call this what it is:
An extraordinary concentration of aspects.
Humans on planet Earth can be forgiven if they find it difficult to feel grounded this month. And maybe that’s the point.
So much is shifting, under our feet, in our bodies, in our nervous systems, that even when our daily routines remain the same, everything may feel different. New observations about our emotions, our thinking, our communication, and our relationships may surface unexpectedly.
This sense of motion, this centrifugal pull, may be exactly what January is meant to deliver:
a destabilizing nudge that opens the year not gently, but honestly.
And that may be how an extraordinary year needs to begin. So if you’re feeling unsettled, you’re probably paying attention. Give yourself a victory lap because and that may be the most useful fruitful position to take in January.
