Last Quarter & Balsamic Moon This Week Astrology - January 11 - 18

Last Quarter Moon Phase & Balsamic

We start the week continuing Last Quarter Moon.   I know Sagittarius new moon feels like ten light years ago but Dec 19, when we launched this lunar month, was only 23 days ago.

As we head to the end of the lunar month, now is a good time to pull out the themes we have been working on.   In my Sagittarius report, which was a complicated new moon chart in an even more complicated astro landscape I mentioned:

So, the question becomes: How do we process difficult news?
During this 29-day lunar month, not only what news we consume, but how we consume it matters. How does it broaden our perspective or narrow it? How are we impacted by it. How does it shape what we believe our role is in humanity?

During these 29 days we may be looking to find our hearth.
Is it friends?  Is it houses of faith? Is it other stories unfolding at the same time.  The quieter stories that inspire you?

There is also a Sun/Moon inconjunct Uranus which is a destabilizing aspect. An inconjunct is 150 degrees which is two signs that can’t see each other, don’t speak the same language. They are ships in the dark. And yet, both create wakes, and those waves can collide.   We could feel seasick with too much news.

With the Sun and Moon in Sagittarius inconjunct Uranus in Taurus, we may be asked throughout this lunar month:  Where is my belief system costing me stability?

Can we make micro-adjustments rather than sweeping changes? Clarity can’t be forced.  It emerges through lived experience. The deeper work of this lunation is updating our personal philosophy, so it matches our actual life.

This Sagittarius New Moon is not operating in isolation. It’s arriving inside a hot-house of late-degree outer-planet astrology.  We feel closure, reckoning, and the sense that an old era is unraveling even as a new one approaches.    We may need all the Sag in the world to make sense of whatever is going on around us given the Sag lunar cycle is when we put our arrows in the sky, aim and shoot.   But before we do that, we gotta be clear we have sure footing and we can be forgiven if we feel a little wobbly because the anaretic Neptune, Uranus & Saturn are a bitch and a half for sure.   Here’s some questions to ask:

Neptune (29° Pisces):

Are we tired of being gaslit? Tired of being gullible? Tired of pinning our hopes on fill-in-the-blank and being wildly disappointed?
Neptune raises its hand.

Saturn (29° Pisces):

Are we noticing that we can’t cut through the fog? That our responsible, problem-solving side still can’t make sense of anything? That peeling the onion of chaos only reveals… more crazy onion?
Hi, Saturn.

Uranus (29° Taurus):

Are we tired of being shocked? Is our money getting weird? Are we realizing we can’t stay the same? Are we seeing the places where fear keeps us stuck? And are we sensing a powerful current inside us that could change everything if we shift our thinking?
That’s Uranus knocking.

And now we are here. At last quarter moon which unfolded on Jan 10, we make the final adjustments to any seeds we planted and helped grow since Dec 19.     This phase reminds us that actions in partnerships matter.  No one is alone, there is someone you engage in, in some manner.   What does it do for your beliefs to remember you have others with input worthy of processing?   How do you get balance?

Then on the 14th the moon moves into Balsamic phase where we release our judgy and hypocrisy.   Interestingly, during the three days of Balsamic we have a ton of planetary action.   How is all that stimulation impacting our release of big ol’ opinions?    Lots to unpack.

Monday January 12 – morning of January 14

Last Quarter moon:  Now we do the final adjustments to the seeds we planted on new. The final call, the final letters to send, we follow all the trails that came up that still make sense.  And we let the other parts lay fallow. It is a time of action but wise action.  It is a time for living “The serenity prayer”

God, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things
I cannot change Courage to change the
things I can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference.

Focus on:

What actions are you taking that fold in balance? What actions are you taking that reach for your goals but include your partner?  What actions are you taking that lean into negotiations?

Planetary Notes:

1/14 – Mercury oppose Jupiter

This is an annular aspect where our thinking and communication is pumped up.  This is fine but be prepared to be called out for any hypocrisy if your life does not ‘walk the talk’.  Big emphasis on world versus family.

.

Balsamic Moon Phase

January 14, 2025

11:00 am PST

Balsamic:   We let go.  By releasing we can prepare for the new.

Focus on:  How are you releasing big ideas?  How are you releasing big opinions? How are you releasing judgy-ness?   How are you releasing hypocrisy?

1/14 – Venus sextile Saturn (23° Pisces)
Love shows up through action. Practical devotion. Creativity becomes grounded. Support may come from leaders, elders, or steady, reliable people.

1/15 – Venus trine Uranus (24° Taurus)
Novelty matters.
New structures around money, relationships, and creativity want room to emerge. How are you changing your approach?

1/17 — Is A Major Day

1/17 Venus sextile Neptune (26° Pisces)
A wash of gentleness. Hearts soften. Release arrives. The woo-woo is strong — and genuinely healing.

1/17 Sun sextile Saturn (26° Pisces)
Creativity meets responsibility. Leaders, businesses, or systems offer support. Practicality becomes the fuel for joy.

1/17 Sun trine Uranus (27° Taurus)
A practical breakthrough. Structural improvements. Movement that is innovative without being careless. Things that were stuck finally have flow.

1/18 Mercury conjunct Mars (28° Capricorn)
Sharp, penetrating thoughts that translate into real movement and action. Conversations carry weight — responsibility in speech is paramount.

Then the new moon lands.   This New Moon report will go up closer to the 18th.
