Astrology for the week: May 20-28

We spend the weekend enjoying the New Moon despite some the sturm and drang of Mars, Jupiter and Pluto grinding at each other.  After the 22nd we start to get some breathing room.  On the 23rd love, creativity and things that we value get an unexpected boost or break through.   Also on the 23rd Mars digs in with the nodes, pushing, testing the limits, boundaries get broken.  Follow the heart will determine what needs to be saved or transformed.

New moon: Plant seeds, make calls, activate, start projects.   Activate something that will ideally lead you to more.  This is the phase where INTENT is critical.  Even if the results are not immediate, the intent is there.  You may not have all the answers or road map, but you should put out your Intent.

This focus:     Where do you need comfort?  Where do you need to build up support?  What area means a lot to you that needs focus?  Where do you need security?  How can use the Taurus energy to build a practical path to support that need?  How can you take care of your money?  How can you take care of your assets?  How can you support your ability to share love?

Special note:

5/20: Mars enters Leo.  Big, bold actions that tap strength, self-esteem & pride.

5/20: Mars oppose Pluto (see earlier post)

5/21: Sun enters Gemini

5/21: Sun trine Pluto:  Thinking that stimulates authentic transformation.   Cracking the stubborn to get the fresh and new.

5/21: Sun sextile Mars:  New Actions that tap strength, pride, and creativity

5/22: Mars square Jupiter:  Actions based on ego conflict with practicality.  Authenticity is the answer.

Taurus New Moon

May 19, 2023

A lot can be done during these next twenty-nine days.   A lot of good productivity can be accomplished because cutting to the chase,

this is a lovely Taurus new moon.  In this chart, the sun and moon sextile Mars and Neptune – and there is a beautiful trine with Pluto.     Wonderful.   The first part of the year had a lot of Astro tumult which makes this new moon and twenty-nine-day lunar cycle very welcomed.

Yay.   I hope you will lean into the opportunities to be practical about so much and put the chaos on the shelf.    You will find my whole article on Margaret Wendt’s website.

Make the most of it!

Hot Zone: May 16-22

We are in an astrological hot zone between May 16- May 22.

May 16: Jupiter enters Taurus

May 17: Jupiter square Pluto

May 20: Mars enters Leo

May 22: Mars oppose Pluto

May 22: Mars square Jupiter

Back in March when Pluto entered Aquarius it activated a new astrological era with all the other planets.   Once a planet hits zero degrees of fixed signs it sets off tension with Pluto in Aquarius.   To know exactly how this played out the last time would mean going back to the 1780s.   Obviously, a mercury square Pluto in the 18th century versus 21st century has different ramifications.   Although it is fun to think of Benjamin Franklin making an indiscriminate post on Instagram.

On May 16, Jupiter enters zero degrees Taurus, and the very next day forms an exact square with Pluto.  Then on May 20th Mars enters zero Leo, forms an opposition with Pluto and on May 22 Mars squares Jupiter.    This is a lot of tension.   Mars in Leo has the most in-your-face explosive potential however Jupiter in Taurus is hard to explode.   Jupiter spent the last year in Aries, noisy, setting off sparks wherever it traveled.   Now in Taurus, Jupiter settles down.  It wants to build something from the ground up.  It longs to own, construct, and build up.   Pluto in Aquarius does not like rear view mirror thinking.  It wants new thoughts that speak to revolutionary, it itches for new technology and wants to speak for all not just one.  Mars in Leo relies on the power of one, personal strength and talents, loyalty, pride and being the big shot.   Between May 16 – May 22 we feel the pressure of wanting something that perhaps we can’t get but darn we want it.   We want to tussle with anyone who can’t see our strengths and talents.  We are craving new thoughts and revolutionary thinking that could better our world, but we can’t seem to get there.    There will be stories in the news of egos run amok, lack of resources, misbehaviors of those who are pushing out of bounds, or crossing boundaries both international and personal spaces.

In the middle of this tension is the Taurus New Moon that reminds us to keep our eyes on needed changes that are concrete, grounded in practicality and improve our resources.

Mercury Station Direct: May 14, 8:16pm PDT

Mercury (Mythopedia)

Mercury Dates

April 7, 5:02am shadow begins

April 21, 1:35am PDT station retrograde 15 Taurus 37

May 14, 8:17pm PDT station direct 5 Taurus 50

May 31, 12:39pm PDT shadow ends

Mercury stationing direct wraps up the three-week retrograde.   To that news we always say, “Yay”.

As Mercury begins his long trek back to where he began, we should take the time between May 14 and May 31(shadow point) to consider the following questions:

What have we learned about our values?

What have we learned about our money?

What have we learned about our resources?

What plan did we make or now know we need to make that will help us construct a way for more security?

How have we learned the value of keeping our head down and just doing the work?

Where we saw a disconnect between our daily focus and our values, did we walk away?  Is it liberating?

How are we recommitting to our values by perhaps a implementing a new regiment that gets our focus?

What project do we want to launch that we can build upon bit by bit?

Our next retrograde will take place on September 15, 1:21pm PDT at 8 degrees Virgo.   Enjoy your Mercury Direct Summer.

Jupiter Enters Taurus: May 16, 2023

Jupiter our biggest neighbor

Jupiter enters Taurus

May 16, 2023

10:20am PDT

June 11, 2023 Jupiter enters shadow

Sept 4, 2023 Jupiter station retrograde 15 Taurus 34

Dec 31, 2023Jupiter station direct   5 Taurus 34

March 24, 2024 Jupiter exits shadow

A couple days after Mercury turns direct at 5 degrees of Taurus where we will have just spent three weeks considering and editing our life in some fashion to be more practical and in alignment with our values, Jupiter the biggest planet of all moves into Taurus.

Jupiter suggests, that money, properties, possessions could be improved or expanded.   Perhaps all the hard work of the Mercury retrograde has cleared space for better quality _____(fill in the blank) in our life.   The last time Jupiter was in Taurus 2011-2012.  Consider what you were doing at that time.  How was it expansive?   Where were you inclined to go big?  Did that big improve your life?  Did you do something big that held up and is still working?   Or did it not survive the test of time?   Or was it just too much?     How can you be sensible, (good Taurus word) with any expansion?    Globally, we should take note of money, including digital currency.   Land and real estate is very critical during Jupiter in Taurus.   Will it get over heated?   Or will there be big swings?  Will there be big money gains or losses?  It is hard to tell because Uranus is still in Taurus mixing things up in its famous unpredictable Uranus way.

One of THE biggest aspects next year will be the conjunction between Jupiter and Uranus on April 20, 2024.   This aspect happens about every fourteen years, and it drafts on new Tech, new ideas, new waves of something that have big impact.   In astrologer Chris Brennan’s podcast from earlier this year he discussed that Steve Jobs was born with a natal Jupiter Uranus conjunction in Cancer.  And Chris points out that Jobs launched Apple’s -Think Different campaign in 1997 during a conjunction between Jupiter and Uranus.  God knows Jobs iphone made it to homes and pockets across the world (perfectly Cancer).

One thing that makes next year’s conjunction a bit concerning is that the last time Jupiter and Uranus shared Taurus and formed a conjunction was at the end of Taurus in May 1941.    You don’t need to have a PHD in world history to know that by May 1941, greedy, ruthless, power-hungry autocrats were popular and causing pain and a world war.  Who followed them?  Lots to unpack and we’ll be talking a lot about the conjunction as we head into 2024.   Watch this space.

As for the retrograde of Jupiter later in the year,  it is interesting that Jupiter will be retrograding exactly over the same Taurus degrees that Mercury just went back and forth over during its retrograde.    This gives more reason to watch what comes up during the Mercury retrograde and then the Jupiter transit especially between the shadow points of June 11, 2023 and March 24, 2024 to see if there are any common themes both personally and globally.

Finally, the next day on May 17, Jupiter forms a square with Pluto.  As we have discussed, Pluto is barely in Aquarius and this aspect happens at 00 degrees 18 of Taurus and Aquarius.    Aquarius and Taurus are fixed signs which lean into rigidity and unwillingness to bend.  Jupiter is our biggest neighbor, and he likes to go big or go home.  In the sign of Taurus there is a focus on acquiring wealth.   If there are any moves to acquire wealth that are not above board, Pluto will have a heat seeking missile on the corruption and have no qualms exposing it.    We will probably see this play out in some news event.   Personally, those people with planets at Zero Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius will feel the challenges.    Greed not good under this aspect.   But rolling over and letting resources be taken not good either.    Try to find a balance.

Full Moon & Lunar Eclipse

14 Scorpio 58

Every sign has its own superpower and in the last two years Taurus and Scorpio have been accessing their power through new and full moons.  In November of 2021, we began the eclipse cycle of Taurus and Scorpio and the last eclipse of these two will take place on October 28.    It will not be until 2040 that we ping these two signs again through eclipses.  Taurus teaches us the power of building something from the ground up.   Scorpio teaches us the power of destruction and transformation.   While the two signs may seem opposite in temperament they work well together when they tap each other’s strength.   Taurus can’t build anything up unless it has the proper land, Scorpio knows how to clear the landscape.

Uranus is key to this full moon.  Once a year the Sun is on top of Uranus and in this case the conjunction is on May 9.   When the full moon launches at 10:34am on the 5th, the moon will be heading for its own conjunction with Uranus about six hours later.    Uranus is the great disrupter planet, and it has been traveling through Taurus since 2018 and will leave in 2026.   The last time Uranus was in Taurus was 1935-1942.   Globally we see the themes of oppression, dictators, fascism, and wars over land, like when Uranus was in Taurus before WWII.   Taurus also rules money, real estate, farming, and sustainable food.  Money crashed in the 1930s and programs were put together like Social Security, where people pay into a program, bit by bit (how Taurus) for later security.  Perhaps there will be some movement during this full moon to address the approaching debt ceiling.   In the last cycle the dust bowl wreaked havoc in this nation and disrupted the grain farms.  We have seen extreme droughts and flooding this cycle as well and there may be some potent and destructive weather during this full moon.   Uranus will be the noisy planet this three-day lunar cycle.  Things can come out of the blue, disruptions to ‘well laid plans,’ and earthquakes both literal and figurative could be felt.   The gift of Scorpio is that when it is in its most fluid state (it is a water sign) it can look at the new terrain and grab its power to accomplish whatever the task at hand demands.  The mom that lifts the car that has pinned her child speaks to Scorpio power.  Scorpio is strong in its focus.   In another context, Scorpio also understands the power of shedding something to get to fresh growth.  If anything comes up from out of the blue and rattles your cage, try your best to shake it off and look at the matters at hand, be practical (a good Taurus word) and assess how to start anew (a good Scorpio word) which could tap a fresh power.

Also playing in this full moon is Mercury in conjunction with the Sun.   On May 1stthe Sun joined Mercury who is retrograde and will still be an influence on the full moon.    Whenever Mercury is retrograde, we have an opportunity to review our thinking.   Taurus is the sign of values, so Mercury retrograde in Taurus asks us to lean in and make sure our thinking is in alignment with our current values.   For as wonderful as Taurus is with the ability to be steady as a rock.  It also can be stubborn.   It can hang on to things way past their prime.    Perhaps there are some people who value being truth tellers, “I tell it like it is”.   Okay sounds noble but what if ‘telling it like it is’ takes you down one battle after another with people whom you love or cherish.   What is that doing to you and your relationships?  Are people stepping away?  Is that what you want?  Or perhaps it is the opposite, you don’t like to rock the boat, you think peace at any cost is important, but you are going so far out of your way to please the other that your needs are forgotten.  Is that working for you?   This full moon in Scorpio may shine a light on thinking that is not in connection with your current values.  Look at any of the less than positive emotions that may come up such as jealousy, resentment, envy, rage as signposts that your thinking may benefit from an overhaul.   Getting physical may help you dislodge the powerful emotions, go for a walk, stretch, do yoga, take time to move your body.  Also use Taurus to hit pause, take a deep breath, and forgive yourself of your murky emotions.   Remember Mercury will station direct on the 14th so anything you have learned during this retrograde can start to be put into use after Mercury turns direct, with possible results that are in more alignment with your current values.

As we transition between the Taurus – Scorpio eclipses to the Aries – Libra cycle, we will benefit the most by learning the value of harnessing our emotions on this full moon.  Our emotions can be very powerful, especially when they show us where we need more work.   Scorpio can go long in depression, despair and resentment but at the same time Scorpio also understands taking those emotions and turning them into motivation and power.   In Cancer, the first water sign, we feel the power of tides that pull us out and then later push us in.   We go up and down with the waves.   In Scorpio the water is a deep river, capable of tremendous force, cutting and carving its way through the stiffest dirt.   Consider the river that built the Grand Canyon.   But when all that water is focused and harnessed you also get the Hoover Dam using that same river to create enough power to electrify cities hundreds of miles away.   Remember any emotion that comes up as an opportunity to be harnessed and build (Taurus) better results.   We will get one more shot in October and then we won’t get these Taurus Scorpio eclipse opportunities again until 2040 Take these next three days to learn how to harness our power.
