Mercury Retrograde: September 26

Mercury Retrograde

9/6:    Mercury Shadow begins

9/26:  Mercury retrograde (25 Libra 28) 10:10pm

10/18: Mercury stations direct (10 Libra 07) 3:17pm

11/3   Mercury Shadow ends

About two hours after the Virgo New Moon launched, Mercury the ruling planet of Virgo crossed its first shadow point.    When a planet turns retrograde it will cross one shadow point before the retrograde and another shadow point after the retrograde.

The best way to explain shadow points is to imagine you are driving a car from NY to CA.    When you get to Joplin, Missouri you get out of the car and stretch your legs.  Somewhere around Oklahoma City you realize your phone is gone.  That’s when you realize your phone fell off your lap when you got out of the car, so you turn the car around and drive back to Joplin.  There on the side of the road you find your phone.  Relieved to have your phone, you get back on the road and you head west and you sigh when you pass Oklahoma City again because you now feel you are free from all the drama.  Perhaps you feel a bit wiser.

The two shadow points are Joplin and Oklahoma City.     The drive backwards is the retrograde.   Once Mercury stations retrograde on September 26, we will be hitting some issues that may have been on our radar and our minds since September 6 or come up between September 6 and September 26.   Once we get to October 18, we complete the retrograde but then finally get free of all the cuckoo on November 13.

This Mercury retrograde at 25 Libra, suggests a lot of our drama is about relationships and partnerships.    What is our mental angst around relationships?  There is a push pull around power due in part to a square between Mercury and Pluto.  Pluto demands a death and rebirth in thinking.   This square will happen three times, but the tension will be magnified between September 22 and October 1.  Much of our thinking about relationships is centered around feeling out of balance or under appreciated.   God help any of us if we feel any of our relationships are not reciprocal.    There will be legitimate complaints that will need to be addressed.  There also will be cobweb thinking that needs a good vacuum.   How is your thinking about and within relationships based on old knowledge?   There may be a case of just doing too much and a lopsidedness in relationships that gets our attention.   Mercury will get three rounds of a trine with Jupiter, so it is not all 24/7 drama.   Jupiter in Aquarius supports Mercury to help expand knowledge and form a new opinion.   Perhaps an advisor shows up with wisdom.   Take a lot of breaths this retrograde.   Give yourself a lot of time for any appointments where you need to show up.   Expect delays.  Information that you thought was accurate may turn up to be something less than accurate during the retrograde.  Make sure your facts are indeed facts.  Research like crazy during the retrograde.  Take care with your purchases and any signing of contracts.   Of course, you should mind your communication.    The snappy response you do during the retrograde may not be well received.   Think twice before you send THAT email because you may not be able to repair what gets broken.   Unless of course, that is the goal.

Astrology of This Week: September 20 - 26th

Full Moon Phase –

28 Pisces 14

September 20

4:54pm PDT

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us.  There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?

Focus on

See Separate Post.

Special focus

9/20: Mercury trine Jupiter.  Thinking broadens.  Finding a way to get mental balance perhaps learning from a teacher or spiritual advisor.  Group thinking supports expanding opinions that help relationships.  This is the 1st of 3 hits.

9/22: Mercury square Pluto.  Between 9/22 and 10/1 Mercury gets into it with Pluto.  Dark thinking, communication that is strained, thoughts that feel extreme.  What thoughts need to be jettisoned?  How is thinking holding you back?  The 3rdround is Nov 2.

9/22:  Sun enters Libra.   Happy Season change!

9/23: Venus oppose Uranus.  A sudden change in values.  Control around money, sudden changes in love, values and stability.

Perhaps there was a big ol’ blow out on the full and one feels in need of support and help, this is the phase to reach out to one who knows more. This is when we find a rabbi or a minister or therapist who gives us more insight.   And of course, you too may be ready to teach and share your own information.

Focus on:  How are you sharing your practicality?  How are you sharing your tenacity?   How are you sharing your patience?  How are you sharing your discipline to take things one step at a time?

Special focus:

9/25 Mars trine Saturn.  Mars who is not warring to his fullest right now gets help with new structures and support perhaps from someone older.

Pisces Full Moon: September 20, 2021

In the middle of a crack, something wonderful grows.

Pisces Full Moon

September 20, 2021

4:45pm PDT

28 Pisces 14

Welcome to the Harvest Full Moon.    The full moon closest to the Equinox, where we change seasons, is the Harvest Moon.   Some years it is the full moon in Aries and other years it is in Pisces.    This year our harvest moon is Pisces, suggesting that our intuition is our guide for the next three days.

Like all full phases, the Sun is in opposition to the Moon.    In this case, Virgo who is forever focused on facts and flaws that are up close and, in our face, opposing Pisces who wants to dream its reality.      With every full moon the goal is to find the place in the middle between sun and moon. However, in this chart, arguably the thumb is on the scale for Pisces.   Neptune the ruler of Pisces is closest to the Moon in Pisces’ home sign.    Neptune, God of the sea dissolves what it touches, from sandcastles to concrete pilings, the ocean will eventually break it down.  Pisces speaks to universal love and compassion.     What concrete barriers do we have in our hearts and psyches that block love and compassion?

Virgo understands every dot has importance.   The forgotten appointment, the skipped item on the To-Do list, the task we said we would take care of but neglected creates a crack in our goals.    However, Neptune and Pisces may ask us to deepen our knowledge of self.  Perhaps there is another goal that is bigger and under our To-Do list.    If we want to pay our phone bill before it gets shut off, okay, that makes sense.  But is there a bigger goal under it, do we need more income, or a job change or a location change to expand our resources?    What is our intuition telling us?   Whatever is the crack in our lives, Neptune and the Full Moon in Pisces may be asking us to let the space just ‘be’ for a moment, perhaps there is a dream forming.

My own experience is that sometimes the “Universe” gets our attention through maybe a random encounter or thought.   Consider what crosses your brain or path during the three-day phase.    Or maybe some curious component of nature. I remember driving through a canyon in Los Angeles and my husband and I were blown away when we turned a corner and there was a huge buck with crazy big antlers.  A buck is not a usual sight for me in a mega city.    He seemed a wizened, old guy, I was so moved by his presence when we got home, I looked for my old medicine cards.   I read about Deer Medicine, and it was a reminder of finding gentleness.   At that time there was something that needed me to find gentleness.   I do not even remember what the issue was but the connect about the deer and leaning into gentleness stayed with me.     The universe has its way of getting our attention.

Just before the full moon, Mercury forms an exact trine with Jupiter.   This is interesting because it speaks to both Virgo who is ruled by Mercury and Jupiter who long before Neptune was discovered was Pisces’ ruler.

Mercury and Jupiter are supporting each other on this full moon.   Mercury in Libra is focused on finding balance and communication in our relationships.   Jupiter in Aquarius reminds us that our values and goals are benefited when we share them with our community.

During these three days, lean into your community.  It is a great moon to volunteer.

It is also an important full moon to find abundance (Jupiter) and quell the negative critical (Virgo) voice.   It is good to bring practicality to where there is confusion and stay on details but if your intuition says to leave something alone, do it.   Maybe something new is supposed to grow a crack.

Astrology for the Week of September 6 - 11.

This week begins with Virgo New Moon.   Week’s that start off with a new moon give us a little extra kick in our step.

The new moon lasts from September 6 – 10, this is the time of the waxing moon when we plant seeds.  On the Virgo lunar month our focus is on our daily actions.  What does our to-do list say about our values?   Are we just checking things off a list?   Are we doing enough to goals that are more authentic to our goals?   Is the life want in our calendar?   Plant seeds that lead you to daily actions towards your goals.    A fabulous new moon to launch a diet and exercise plan.

On 9/10 Venus moves out of Libra and into Scorpio.   It is as different as day from night.   For the last month Venus has been in her home sign of Libra.  She is comfortable in light as air Libra, leaning into gentle encounters.  Looking for optimistic moments and kind moments, love flows easily.   In Scorpio, Venus is intensified as encounters are deep, dark and extreme.  Sex and jealous and issues around shared resources including money and loans will get our attention.   Love of power and power of love will be in our sights for the next month.

Virgo New Moon is UP.    I almost was tardy which would not be approved by Virgo.    It is an interesting 28 days.  There are opportunities within tension.   The good news is the tension allows us to open up to some surprises by Uranus.  Will we do it?

By the way, Happy New Year to all my Jewish friends!

The Second Aquarius Full Moon. Yep. August 22.

August 22, 2021

5:01am PDT

Aquarius Full Moon

29 Aquarius 36

The 2nd one this year!

August 22, 2021

5:01am PDT

Here we are at our second full moon in Aquarius.   Technically this is a blue moon but not in the typical manner where there are two full moons in one month.   This moon is considered a seasonal blue moon because it generates an extra full moon in a season (summer).   The astrological point of view on two full moons in the same sign suggests we are double downing in the sign.  In this case we will tap our inner Aquarius and  (Sun) Leo skills.

The chart for the full moon is not as bumpy as the Aquarius full moon on July 23rd but it still stretches us.   Those people who have trouble stretching may be challenged.   Aquarius is the final air sign of the zodiac and is more mental than emotional.   Some full moons bring out the tears, this one more connected to mental overwhelm.    The full moon chart is Moon at 29 degrees, the final degree of Aquarius.  The moon leaves Aquarius 40 minutes after Full Moon launches.   The Sun leaves Leo just seven hours later.   Like squeezing out the last hours of the final days of summer, this Full Moon is asking us to squeeze out Leo and Aquarius one more time.

Aquarius concerns itself with manmade constructs such as societal circles.  Groups of like-minded people who come together for their one focus.   Political groups, or philanthropic boards, sewing Circles, Revolutionary War re-enactors, Rotary clubs, or neighborhood clean-up teams, (and the like) speak to the community domain of Aquarius.   People who might not share the same socio economics or careers or cultures but who come together for focused effort on a similar vision speak to Aquarius.    This is the full moon to get out of your comfort zone.  Take a risk and reach out to others who are doing something that you want to do as well.

Leo, who is on the other side of the full moon, reminds us to tap our strength and authentic voice, it is also asks us to find our generosity.  We pull out a spotlight and shine it on those who are doing something that maybe we can’t do at this time, but we respect those who are doing it and wish to honor and recognize them.   If we can’t give others a victory lap on this full moon, then we need to look at what is blocking us?   It may be some tired old issue (resentment, self esteem bruise) that is ready for retirement.  Remember this is the final degree of the sign.   There is a goodbye buried in this three-day cycle.

Adding to the Aquarius energy we have Jupiter who has been in Aquarius since last December with a brief respite in Pisces (May 13 – July 28).    Two full moons in Aquarius suggests spirit telling us, “Hey get your Aquarius on.”   However, the fact that one of the two moons is right on Jupiter is Spirit saying, “Oh, yeah, I’m giving you some steroids, too.”    Something may come up during this full moon that will clarify our own needs from and what you can give to community.   Jupiter in conjunction with the Moon, juices up this three-day cycle.    Whenever Jupiter touches the moon, we are reminded of the power that comes for taking a moment and pondering how big is our world?  Is it more narrow than it serves us?  Jupiter wants to get out there and meet others.  It wants to know what is going on in the other side of the world or maybe the other side of the city.  It likes to explore things that are “foreign”.   When Jupiter misbehaves it is too strident and insists it has all the answers.    Know-it-alls are put on notice this full moon.   Make sure anything said is backed up by facts.  It is not the full moon to get lost in hyperbole, no matter how tempting.   Leave your ego at the door.

Finally, Aquarius rules technology.    It is interesting that the first billionaires in space happened while Jupiter is in Aquarius and between these two Aquarius full moons.    This three-day cycle might have some of us conquering our own techno issues.    “Alexa, help me remember my passwords.”

Astrology for the Week: August 15 - 21

This week we are in the first quarter phase of the moon.  We are acting on the seeds we planted a week ago at Leo New Moon.   Acting on love, joy and bravery, how do we dig in and let go?   This is not true of every first quarter moon but this month, the first quarter phase gives us an opportunity to cut out debris and connect to our power.

On the 18th we move into Gibbous phase, which asks us to refine our creativity and love and bring to our work or how we are in the world.

The 19th has a lot of energy.   The sun opposes Jupiter --big pull and Uranus stations retrograde, big weird.    Unlikely a quiet day.   Could have tecnological snafus and shortages, humans needing love and power could be in the news.

Uranus Station Retrograde August 19 - January 18

Uranus masquerading as a cue ball.

August 19, 2021

6:40pm PDT

14 Taurus 48 – station retrograde

January 18, 2022

10 Taurus 49 – station direct

Uranus begins its annual retrograde cycle.  Uranus likes to change everything up.  It is abrupt and can pull a fast one on everyone.    Taurus is the sign of everything rooted in practicality.  It is dirt. It is money.  It is values.  Taurus builds everything from the ground up.   Uranus disrupts and can tear everything down.

The last time Uranus was in Taurus was during the 1930s. It was extraordinary time of unending drought and extreme climate.    During almost the entire time Uranus was in Taurus we had the Dustbowl in the middle of the United States.   It caused great migrations of people who left farms in the central USA and headed to other parts of the nation.   I thought about that era when I saw on the news last month that the fires in California and Oregon sent ash three thousand miles away and clouded up the skies in Maine and New England.   In the 1930s dust blew across the nation and into Washington DC finally getting the attention of members of congress who had to wipe the dirt that once was the land of an Oklahoma farmer off their fresh pressed suits.  Only then did they start to write meaningful support to help the farmers.  It is worth noting that there was a mismanagement of soil in the 1890s – 1920s that was responsible for a lot of the Dust Bowl.

I anticipate we will see more climatic (and food supply) issues.   Stories of migration will be in the news and environmental injustices.    Personally, wherever you have Taurus in your chart it is getting your attention probably in weird (there’s that word again) ways.  Maybe money stuff.   Property stuff.   While it could feel rough during the bumps, there are new starts and new beginnings buried in the bumps.

Aquarius Full Moon (#1) July 23 at 7:36pm PDT

Aquarius in the living room. SkyView Lite APP

Full Moon Phase –

1 Aquarius 26

July 23, 2021

7:36pm PDT

We will be experiencing two back-to-back full moons in the same sign.  The first moon is at 1 degree of Aquarius; the second full moon on August 22 is at 29 degrees of Aquarius.   While this is not rare (last double full moon was 2019 – Aries), it does speak to a repeating theme: How to lean into our uniqueness?  What sets you apart but also brings you together with others?   How do you use your uniqueness or even your “weirdness”?  How do you share it?   More important how do you take that unique voice and help others?   How do you connect with others?

Aquarius is the final air sign, so it is a more mental than emotional three-day phase. We have a more science-y approach to anything.   If there is a big bugaboo that you can’t quite find a solution, these Aquarius full moons are great to get input and creative solutions.  Solutions that are super practical but still are ingenus and hit that, “Why didn’t I think of that earlier?” button.   Even more to the point Aquarius full moons can reap the benefit of group thought.  Bringing in others and coming up with a solution.

The energy of the two Aquarius full moons is a bit different due to planetary aspects, the first one has a conjunction to Pluto and the second one has a conjunction with Jupiter.   This first full moon we eat our vegetables, next full moon we get some dessert.   But both ask us to find our unique (Aquarius) voice that is very personal (Sun in Leo) and bring it to anyone, any situation, any group that needs help, breakthroughs or solutions.

The chart for July 23 full moon has an out of sign Moon conjunction to Pluto in late Capricorn.   Pluto always ask that we release stuff that is not serving us no matter how much we think we need to hang on to it.   Fear wrapped up in ego to hold on to status quo is hallmark of Pluto in Capricorn.  On this full moon showing up for others that is sensible and practical is key.   But if we dip into the shadowy side of Capricorn, it will not feel right.  What are our motives?  Are we showing up because it is good for all?  Or is it a way to get some advantage later down the road?    Is it a way to make us feel better than others in some twisted up insecurity?  Or is an opportunity to bring good and move on letting the goodness help and perhaps inspire others to step up?

One keyway to check your inner compass, is if you note lack, jealousy or envy pop up during the three days.  The Leo Sun opposition Pluto/Moon can challenge us that whatever comes up that is icky is coming up for us to process, let go and heal.  For example, if there is a moment that comes up that feels like, “No one is ever there for me, I have to do everything alone.”    Okay.   Maybe that does feel true but then use this full moon to ask, who is your circle?  Is it time to branch out?  Are you telling yourself that you can’t reach out?   Or you can’t expand your world?   What is your tribe?  Some people may carry the legacy that only family is tribe.  Family can be great, for sure, but they also can be problematic because there are so many rules with family.  It also can lack uniqueness since family can be homogenized in thinking.   Aquarius breaks free of rules, it seeks fresh air.  We are not getting two full moons in Aquarius by accident, we are being asked to expand our circles on some level.   This moon (and the next one) are great times to step up for community or at the very least access the benefits of community.   Perhaps there is some civic resource that you need, and it is right at your fingertips, but you have not looked for it.  Maybe you need to ask people in your community or circles, and someone will give you an important key to something that could be so helpful.

One thing also worth noting about these back-to-back Aquarius full moons is that they are not alone in ringing the Aquarius bell.  Saturn is around ten degrees Aquarius and remains in Aquarius until March of 2023, so we are about midway in that journey.   Saturn is the planet of responsibility so wherever you have Aquarius in your chart you are feeling extra burdened or taking on more responsibilities.   If you do not know your chart you can draft one, for free HERE.   It is remarkable that the month Saturn the planet of hard work and usually lone journeys went into Aquarius, Covid 19 sent most of the world into their homes, isolated from others relying on technology (Aquarius) or community for help and connectedness.  The full moon can have stories in the news that speaks to Covid and how we need to continue to support others.

Then there is Jupiter who spent the beginning of 2021 in Aquarius until May when it dipped into Pisces.  On July 28 it returns to Aquarius.   In that environment of two major planets in Aquarius we have these two full moons in Aquarius.  Do you think the Universe is getting our attention?    There is so much tinkering going on in Aquarius that it is drafting all of us into this work.  It is not just elected officials or defined ‘leaders’ in communities it is all of us talking to one another, brainstorming, stepping up and offering support.   See what you learn this Full Moon and how it speaks to your unique gifts and how you can share them with others.   We will also talk about your specialness in two weeks at the Leo New Moon but between now and start to feel your uniqueness.

Jupiter Re-Enters Aquarius on July 28

Jupiter. Wikipedia. That red spot is a giant perpetual storm that is larger than Earth.

December 19, 2020, Jupiter enter Aquarius

May 13, 2021, Jupiter enters Pisces

June 20, 2021, Jupiter station retrograde 2 degrees Pisces 11

July 28, 2021, Jupiter re-enters Aquarius

October 17, 2021, Jupiter station direct 22 Aquarius 20

December 29, 2021, Jupiter returns to Pisces

Jupiter turned retrograde last month and on July 28 it returns to Aquarius.   The last time, Jupiter was in Aquarius was between December 2020 and May this year.   The time before that was January 2009 until January 2010.   There may be some themes from 09-10 that were repeated earlier this year.   In May, when Jupiter went into Pisces we moved into different topics.   Jupiter is huge, it attracts large themes, events and moments that educate us and inform our philosophy, our opinions, our big thinking.  It is not subtle.

In Aquarius, Jupiter had to share the energy with Saturn who is also in Aquarius.  Saturn can bring a depressing, “what’s the use?” attitude which really rubs Jupiter the wrong way.    Once Jupiter moved into Pisces in May, Jupiter felt liberated being out of the same sign with Saturn. Jupiter was more porous ready to absorb the information of Pisces.  Our inner mystic could have been up, we could have been leaning into our faith, we could have pulled away from things that were harsh for fear that it would take us too down or we could have seen despair and hit a wall.

When the biggest planet in our solar system returns to Aquarius, we take some of that Pisces philosophical juju and bring it to Aquarius through Jupiter.  In Aquarius we look for like-minded people, we bring big ideas, we construct with others.  We aren’t just do-gooders for the sake of doing good, we want to create new solutions, new ways that are sustainable (good side of Saturn) we also take a moment and remember, “Oh, I am a human and hey you are a human, too”.  Jupiter will be in Aquarius until December 29 but unlike the first part of this year when Jupiter was in Aquarius where he had to deal with sour Saturn, this time he returns with the knowledge of Pisces.  The power of faith, the power of mystical,  even if we went to despair, now in Aquarius Jupiter tells Saturn, “We can do what it takes with others on our side, let’s team up.”  Do not be surprised if you are pulled into social events that are meaningful and you bring something important or special and you are recognized for it.
