Here's a snippet---there are a lot of opportunities in the next lunar month to get 'unstuck' and lean into a new freshness ( I hope you will read the whole write up)

Welcome to Scorpio New Moon.

After a year of cardinal eclipses and bumpy aspects in fall and summer I feel the comfort of a Scorpio New Moon.  Something not said often.

Scorpio goes deep in anything it pursues.  It prefers the definitive. It speaks in extreme such as black/white, all/none, everybody/nobody, yes/no.  Scorpio is not grey.   It draws a line.   Scorpio connects to sex, co-mingled resources, taxes, surgery, it hangs out in serious.  Scorpio also purges debris.   Scorpio is a fixed water sign and is plumbing; it is the pipes that get rid of crap and the pipes that bring in fresh.  Scorpio is death and transformation.

The new moon chart has a 29-day life cycle, and we look at the aspects of the chart to find themes for the lunar month.  This Scorpio new moon chart has Sun/Moon trine Saturn which is helpful for the lunar cycle.  There is NO frittering away power with Scorpio.  It keeps its powder dry until it needs it.

Going in deep and getting rid of stuff will be supported.  It’s also good for finding that which is buried or ignored in our psyche or our history that needs to get plumbed out.  We are all spelunkers in Scorpio especially with Saturn supporting our deep dives.  Saturn in Pisces brings Scorpio faith and intuition and work that feels good.

The two planets associated with Scorpio are Mars and Pluto.  In the chart Mars trine Mercury (28 Scorpio) and Pluto sextile Mercury.  This is a lot of strong juju for Mercury.   It suggests an excellent cycle to get clarity of thoughts and communication.  Even with, hold for it, a Mercury retrograde coming up at the end of the lunar month.  By the time we get to the retrograde, Mercury will be in noisy Sagittarius where we will assess our opinions, judgements and our rhetoric.  But we can still learn from it.

Coincidentally, the most potent aspect on the chart involves Mars and Pluto who are in opposition and perfect Nov 3.   This is a very strong aspect which pits two warriors against each other.   But, they share a commonality, which may mean the two of them are in the business of transformative work.

Mars Oppose Pluto: November 3, 2024

Mars opposition Pluto

11/3/24

3:37am PST

Yesterday I was with a group of astrologers, and we were discussing the upcoming Mars retrograde and the Mars opposition Pluto on November 3.   There was some concern in the group.  Sure.  It's a big deal.  Not going to disagree.   Having said that,  maybe I was feeling last night’s Moon in Cancer heading for its monthly conjunction with Mars, but I was compelled to bring up something that I do not hear a lot of astrologers discussing, which is the power of water.   Cancer is a water sign.   Capricorn is a mountain.   Water can breakdown almost everything, including mountains.  Consider the steep ravines of the Grand Canyon carved over millennia by a meandering river.  Or unfortunately the real time images of Hurricane Helene after it dropped millions and millions of raindrops in mountain communities 300 miles away from a beach.    Sigh.

Obviously, most of the time we will give the weight to Pluto when tackling any of its aspects with inner planets.   But I dunno, Pluto at 29 Cap 46 makes me wonder if after 16 years of traveling through mighty Capricorn that this final aspect with Mars, if Pluto will be susceptible to the power of water?    What if, the lesson we learn is the power of a Pluto death and rebirth?    What if we learn the power is not in the leader but in what the people do with other people to form a group effort?  We are transiting between Capricorn and Aquarius which I have written a lot about in the last two years.

Obviously, the conjunction has a potency given it is two days before the USA Presidential election. I wonder about the election and a possible massive turnout. A turn out that is being spiked and perhaps not being picked up by pundits or prognosticators.   I say that with some personal perspective.  I am very plugged into Grassroots groups.

I have gotten out 4000 post cards to swing states and swing districts this summer. That's just me. One of my friends has been getting out 5,000 cards a month for most of this year. My other friend and his group have registered over 3 million people in the last two years. I have friends who have flown to swing states. They are doing real work on the ground on the front porches, knocking on doors.  Having real conversations with folks.  Listening to what they have to say and what they want in their future.   These conversations are important and there are a lot of them fueled in part by Jupiter in Gemini no doubt.

I wonder about that Mars in Cancer and Pluto in Cap and the last gasps of the USA Pluto Return; I wonder if the election will be a massive turn out.  That would in many ways lean into the new landscape of Aquarius.    People coming together.

It may bring a tough response by the other side...or not. As one who has had a lot of conversations.   I am not sure what a response would be to a groundswell election.   More to be revealed.      I will say however, I am grateful that it is not a Mercury retrograde like the last couple of November elections.   Thank Gawd for that fact.    In the meantime, I will sit back like the rest of the world let Mars Oppose Pluto on November 3rd roll out and think about the new horizon on November 19 when Pluto moves into Aquarius for twenty years.

Please vote.

Mars Retrograde (PT 1 Mars in Cancer)

Mars Retrograde (PT 1 Mars in Cancer)

In September we discussed the Mars retrograde that is coming up soon.     Mars is typically in a sign for five weeks but during a retrograde is in a sign for seven months.   This year Mars stations retrograde on Dec 6 at 6 Leo10 and then goes almost halfway through Cancer.     On October 4, during the new moon phase, Mars crossed the shadow at 17 Cancer 01 The shadow is the point that Mars will return to when it stations direct in February 2025.   We will be covering a lot of ground between now and Feb and then again between Feb and April when Mars exits Cancer.

Mars in Cancer is all about EMOTING especially actions based around mothers, home, family and childhood.  Memories are pronounced, emotions are peak, and sensitivity is great.  Some of us will feel protective and put up a big hard shell (remember Cancer is the crab) others will use pinchers and do a lot of snapping (Cancer has claws).  Of course, there is a possibility that many of us have outgrown our shell.  There could be patterns, behaviors and habits that are not serving us and during the shadow and retrograde we have a skirmish or two and realize something inside us has changed.  We may sense we have outgrown something.   Will we let our shell crack?   Gosh knows the Mars in Cancer oppose Pluto will get our attention.   (See separate post).   Will we be run-a-muck with our feelings?   Or will we use the hard shell of the crab to contain our energy and propel us to where we need to go?

The last Mars retrograde in Cancer was Nov 2007 – Feb 2008, covering 24 Gemini through 12 Cancer.   Before that time there was Nov 1992 – Feb 1993 covering 8-24 Cancer.   And the closest Mars retrograde to these current degrees we are about to experience was when we go back to Dec 1977 with Mars retrograde 11 Leo through 22 Cancer in March 1978.

 You may want to think back to those periods for insights to your personal experiences of Mars retro Cancer.

As one who spent my youth at beaches and got pounded in the sand when heavy surf crashed on me in California shores, I can tell you it is not always fun getting caught up in the force. But when your head pops up and the white froth is all around and you stand up having survived the tumult –well that is a great feeling.

We will probably get caught up in a force during the retrograde.  But it is possible  to come out of it perhaps ---more invigorated?  And not drowned?   We shall see.    As always, more to be revealed.

In the meantime, here are the Mars dates again, which I had in the Sept report:

We continue to slog through the Gibbous Moon

On October 13th  the moon went into Gibbous phase with some bumpy aspects on both the 13th and the 14th.    On the 15th we have a gentle trine from Venus and Neptune to help soothe anxiety.   Maybe some synchronicity moments remind us there is something bigger out there.

Then on the 17th we go into the Aries full moon which is not your average full moon.    It is loaded with tension.

Gibbous focus How are you refining your faith?  How are you refining your spiritual practices?   How are you refining your fears?  How are you refining your connection to something bigger than you?

10/15: Venus trine Neptune.  Love and joy connect with inspiration and faith.   Finding inner dept that connects with something bigger outside of little ol’ self.

Full Moon:  We make the needed adjustments on the things we planted. Usually, emotions are up and running and for those people who perhaps did not utilize the new moon and the rest of the waxing moon, this is when emotions can get the better of us. There can often be a big emotional break, for no other reason than to get back on track.   Some partnership will offer up some balance.  The moon is bright and full and there is no room for shadows, what is reflecting on you?

This is a rub.

10/22: Sun enter Scorpio

Aries Full Moon. October 17, 2024 - 4:26am PDT

Aries Full Moon

October 17, 2024

4:26 am PDT

24 Aries 35

The Aries full moon of 2024 is extra potent and one that has been on astrologers' radar all of year.   Now it is upon us.

During the Libra lunar month, we are aware of our relationships.  For most of the year it can be rote what we do in our partnerships *.  We may not even think about our roles in our relationships.    But during Libra we take a moment and ponder if our patterns still work for us.  It is not just how we divide work or chores with our partners, we also consider how we emote or express ourselves.   Questions may come up like, “Why am I’m the emotional one and you are always the stoic one?”   The Aries full moon lands halfway through the Libra lunar cycle to remind us of who we are in our relationships.  It pushes us to find a new level of authenticity.  It is hard to sleepwalk in relationships during an Aries full moon.    And this full moon we will be very awake. The chart of this Aries full moon is pronounced by a lunar conjunction with Chiron and a grand cross with Mars in Cancer and Pluto in Capricorn.

This full moon may be an opening salvo to December’s retrograde of Mars and a reminder that we will be experiencing Mars in Cancer for seven months.    Normally Mars is in a sign for six weeks but when retrograde it is in a sign for half a year.     Mars in Cancer is focused on our interior life.   We will be concerned and focused on things close to us like family, home, childhood, nurturing, motherhood and our ‘feelings’.    At this time Mars is direct and heading for an opposition with Pluto who turned direct a few days ago.     On this full moon the two of them will be looking at each other demanding some kind of action.    Mars taps strength and bravery and is not afraid of skirmishes even in watery Cancer.    Our emotions may feel like they are pulled tight.    Pluto in the final degree of Capricorn knows its time is over but may still have a couple pieces of ‘business’ to take care of before it leaves Capricorn for our lifetime on Nov 19.   This full moon may present what still needs to be addressed by Pluto.   It will probably not be subtle given the square with Mars.  Watch the news for events that are explosive.   Figurative and literal.   Sigh.

As to the Sun in Libra oppose the Moon in Aries conjunct Chiron. The transit of Chiron in Aries began in 2018 and wraps in 2027.   We are in the final three years and any new or full moon aspect with Chiron is notable.   This full moon is very influenced by Chiron.

Mars in Cancer leans into family, home and history.  Pluto in Capricorn leans into business, big banks, big wall street and big government.   Pluto is cold and cynical.    Chiron in Aries is about a new approach and vision that taps authenticity within us.  It is fiery.      The Sun in Libra wants to hear all the different POVs but would prefer to NOT decide on anything.   It wants to lean back.   This is a lot of tension, and it may begin to smolder on October 13 when the Sun forms an exact opposition with Chiron.   There could be a challenging incident that comes up that is rough.  The battle is how to respond.   Is it with politeness or a sharp snap?   When the moon forms an exact conjunction with Chiron on the 16th, we will NOT be inclined to a ‘peace-at-any-cost’ attitude.   While a battle with someone or something may be merited, the size of that battle must be weighed.   Chiron in Aries can go too far in his fiery response, so much that the reaction is all that is seen versus the incident that caused it.   This tension will be felt during the three-day full moon phase.      Finding a way to negotiate our desires for authentic expression in the face of big emotions is challenging but it is possible especially given that Libra’s ruling planet Venus is in a strong trine with Neptune amplifying a connection with faith and compassion.  Additionally, Venus the planet of love is also sextile Pluto which supports a desire for personal evolution.  This underlying astro beat reminds us that no matter what the question or drama, love is the answer.    As always, try to breathe during the full moon.

(*) partnership is any relationship where it is one-on-one connection.   People at work, friendships and intimate relationships.

Checking In on Chiron at 21 Aries

Chiron and Achilles as child Fresco from Basilica of Herculaneum Museo Archeologico Nazionale

Check in with Chiron

April 17, 2018                   Chiron enters Aries

Sept 25, 2018                   Chiron returns Pisces

Feb 18, 2019                     Chiron enters Aries

June 29,2026                    Chiron enters Taurus

Sept 17,2026                    Chiron enters Aries

April 14, 2027                   Chiron exits Aries enter Taurus

We are past the halfway point of Chiron’s trek in Aries and I thought it was a good time to check in.

Chiron was in Aries when it was discovered November 1, 1977.   Since 1977 Chiron trucked through all the signs until April 2018 when it returned to Aries for the first time since it was discovered.      In 2018 Chiron went back and forth between Aries and Pisces and finally in February 2019 it began its Aries journey where it will be until 2027.

At that time in 2019, I wrote

Chiron is a minor planet/asteroid that lives between Saturn and Uranus in our solar system.  It takes a long time to go around the sun, but it does not spend an equal time in each sign. On Feb 18 it will return to Aries having moved into Aries last year, then took a quick retrograde out in Pisces last fall.   Now it will stay in Aries until 2027.   The myth associated with Chiron speaks of self- wounding.  Where are we our worst enemy?  Is the question to ask with Chiron.  The last time it was in Aries was between1968 – 1976.   Protesting and questioning authority was highlighted but not just by the hippies on the street but also by Nixon in the Whitehouse and Watergate.   Stories of brazen grabs of power or actions where one person thinks they are above the law by virtue of their own identity will fill the news cycles.  Stories of going it alone or being independent will rattle all our cages because we wish we could be that self-directed or because we fear it or both.

Then in March of 2021 I wrote about a Libra Full Moon that was opposing Chiron in Aries.

Chiron is a minor planet (formerly labeled asteroid) and in astrology it speaks to our wounds, self- inflicted wounds.  Of course, children born during this nine-year window will have Chiron in Aries in their natal charts and they will tap into that independent Aries spirit in some manner in their life.  Although, it may be clumsy at first.  The previous Chiron in Aries generation was born between 1968-1976 and during that era when they were babies, we saw the Aries penchant for liberation in the world.   For example, birth control and women pursuing careers which delayed marriage and children but also offered a clearer sense of self in relationships.  Gay liberation launched with Stonewall in the summer of 1969 along with Woodstock (youth independence) and the USA’s landing man on the moon—which could not speak more to Chiron in Aries if it tried.   Obviously, not every summer or every year is so pronounced with Chiron in Aries activities, however historians of astrology will have no problems identifying the warrior Aries in 2020 and now.   During this 2018-2027 period there will be some Aries, new and full moons and Libra new and full moons that will be touched by Chiron. “

A refresher on Chiron the Centaur.    Chiron was a product of Greek God Cronus (Saturn) and a water nymph (Oceanid) Philyra.   When Chiron was born, his mother was so ashamed by her half human half horse son that she abandoned him on a mountain.    The sky god Apollo found Chiron and raised him.    Apollo taught Chiron music, art, medicine, prophesy and archery while his twin sister Artemis also taught the centaur hunting.   Most of the centaurs were heathens, big drinkers and sloppy.   Chiron was different; probably because he had a god for a father.  He was civilized, wise, intelligent and kind.   Everyone sought Chiron’s advice and tutoring.  He was also an astrologer.    However, for all his smarts, nurturing and wisdom there was one problem with Chiron, he could not heal himself.   Wounded by a poison arrow (shot by one of his students) Chiron was in much pain and found no remedy that could heal him.   Unfortunately, because he was immortal it meant he would live his life forever and in pain.   It all seemed too much for Chiron and he chose to give up his life and transferred his immortality to Prometheus who brought the world fire.   Even in death he was generous.   When Chiron is in a sign, we explore the gifts and knowledge of the sign, but we also see examples where the sign is foolish or goes too far.

Chiron’s journey in Aries speaks to the power of going it alone, being independent, carving an individual path.   It is the power of stating something bold and going for it.   It is the power of self-agency.     It is the opposite of co-dependency.  It speaks to tapping frustration or anger and doing something creative or productive that is part and parcel to a solution.  We help others see they can ‘do it’ whatever is that ‘it’.

Chiron in Aries can go long in, “I don’t give a fuck” attitude.

This approach can be helpful in clearing out an over connection to people and their opinions of us.   We tap bravery and just stop caring about stuff that does not support our vision or our skills to be authentic.  We tap a fire in our belly.   However, where we screw up is when we go too far and  we elevate boors and uncouthness.  Bullies can thrive in a Chiron in Aries period and certainly there can be a multitude examples of abuse of power.   We need to take care we are not celebrating modern day Visigoth.  Or we are amplifying modern day pirates or 'strong men' who we step on those who are quieter, milder or humble.

Since 2018 I have been pointing out planetary aspects in my new and full moon reports that involve Chiron, including this spring’s Aries New Moon solar eclipse on April 8.    On that new moon, Chiron was EXACT with the new moon.  Not one degree off.   Exact.    It would seem Chiron wanted our attention for the whole year since that new moon launched the 12-month zodiacal lunar year.   And arguably since April, it has been a firestorm of activity.  Ask Joe Biden how fast Aries energy can upend a world.

Now in the fall of 2024, we will have a potent full moon in Aries on October 17 that is  conjunct with Chiron and squares Mars.   This is two weeks before a seminal election and a newly direct Pluto soon to enter Aquarius.    It is feasible that there will be some event that will get our attention, speak to speed, fire, independence and a tension that cannot be contained.   Having said that we need to avoid dystopian narratives and people who use that fear for their own personal gains.   If you are having a nice day, have a nice day.  Let’s all try to breathe.

We have three more years of Chiron in Aries.   It is very probable that the actions of the next month will impact the rest of the Chiron in Aries cycle in a significant manner.

Of course, watch your world for some drunken centaurs, abusive pirates and Visigoth who want to jam you up with their bigness.    Tell them to eff off and do your own thing.

In the meantime, read about your own sign and placement of Chiron in your chart

Mercury. Mars. Confronting Lies about Hurricane Helene Response

On Saturday October 5th  Mercury squared Mars.   Mars crossed it's shadow point on October 4th (17 Cancer).  Once it crossed that point we also headed towards the first planetary aspect to shadow Mars.  Mercury is news and communication.  Mars is anger.  The rage over lies on social media about the FEMA response to Hurricane Helene started to grow.  Yep, all very Mercury.     The Gop Senator and Governor of North Carolina called out lies.    Donald Trump's lies on the FEMA response to Hurricane Helene continued to grow.    Finally on Saturday the day of the square, the Charlotte Observer could take no more and issued their own Op Ed.

''

Jupiter in Gemini (news) has been difficult.  For some of us, we thought the lies around eating cats and dogs in Ohio and those who promote the lies was a nadir but apparently there is no bottom. We now have these Helene lies.

This week, Jupiter is slowing down and station retrograde on October 9th.    For much of Jupiter's retrograde we will also have Mars in Cancer retrograde ( Dec 6 - Feb 23).

Jupiter's shadow began July 15th and during Jupiter's retrograde which ends on Feb 4, every American can make their own decision as to what they click on and what they believe.   What information we traffic is on us.

We'll let historians consider the lies generated and amplified on social media during this period of Jupiter retrograde,  Mars retrograde and both panets in their shadows and all of this in the final days of  the USA Pluto return.

Astrology for October 6 - 14

 As the waxing moon continues through Crescent, First Quarter and Gibbous phases, we have two stationary planets.  On October 9, Jupiter stations retrograde at 21 Gemini 20.   Then two days later on October 11 Pluto stations direct at 29 Capricorn 39.

The rhetoric with Jupiter in Gemini has been spiking of late which is of course troubling.    During the retrograde we all would be smart to assess how we get our information.   Do we rely on news agencies, friends, memes?   Is it accurate?    Between now and February 4 when Jupiter stations direct at 11 Gemini 17 we will all have a lot to consider about our communication and if our facts are accurate.

Pluto stationing direct is potent.  I consider it one of the most important events of the year.   I would anticipate in the next couple of weeks a major event (or maybe more than one) around this date that will speak to the new landscape we are heading for the next 20 years.    Pluto enters Aquarius on November 19 saying goodbye to Capricorn for two hundred and forty years.   Bye-Bye.

We continue to watch the dates that the Moon is in cardinal signs and pushes on Mars and Pluto for thrills and spills.

There are some inner planet trines in this window that can be helpful: Venus trine Mars 10/8.  Mercury trine Jupiter 10/8.  Sun trine Jupiter 10/13.  Venus trine Neptune 10/15.     Remembering who we are and how we love will be an important touch stone.   A family member, a friend, a pet, a neighbor, a stranger --love can be found.   With these helpful aspects in and around big movement by Jupiter and Pluto, perhaps the prayer of Francis of Assisi will be tapped by some.

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
